Morgan + Jordan

Our Story

Open Hands started with two girls and four hands. Morgan and Jordan became friends through many avenues of art.

We were always creating, separately and together. We often talked about our dream of opening a creative collective, we want to inspire people and bring them together through community experiences.

Surrounded by the event industry we noticed a massive amount of waste and wanted to influence a change. We started collecting fresh flowers from events, that were about to be thrown away. This is where our journey began, as we dried and pressed the flowers in Jordan’s house, we realised that we were regenerating life, we were giving the flowers new purpose. To connect with the flowers more, we started to draw them, we believe drawing has a level of intimacy and immediacy that helps translate the ideas in your mind visually.

When questioning how we could share our discoveries with people we came up with workshops; we believe this is a direct community experience. We want to teach you to combine creativity with sustainability and allow time for yourself in a relaxed and inspirational environment.

Morgan

Morgan can be described as the free-spirited bohemian girl that walks around barefoot and hair down. She has done art her whole life and is considered the creative one in the family. She studied a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at University of Western Australia but decided she was destined for different things; she had an itch for the visual arts and just wanted to express herself through painting. And so, she did! She completed a Master of Applied Design and Art at Curtin University and came out with a beautiful body of work titled: Marking Memory Lane. Morgan is an emerging Perth artist and hopes to continue her art practice further.

So how did she get on the path of running her own business? Morgan loves project management, organisation and event styling. She dreams big when it comes to connecting people with art. She wants everyone to experience art the way she does.  Morgan does everything at 100% and deep down always knew that she would open her own business. With the help of an amazing partner, Morgan hopes that Open Hands can be a international platform for sharing creativity, sustainability and connectivity. It is a big dream that will one day come true.

Jordan

Jordan is a bubbly, colour-loving designer. She has changed career path a few times but not matter what she always strives to be doing something creative and rewarding. Starting as an Interior Architect, moving to Graphic Designer and Fairy then to Arts and Disability Support work all the while researching hard to receive her Honours and Post-Grad in art and design. Now she continues to work at DADAA, running workshops and providing support for people with disabilities while cofounding Open Hands Creative. Although very creative, she is the practical one of the pair, making sure their decisions are grounded in research and logic. She is extremely passionate about the environment, ethical practices and community. She hopes that Open Hands can bring people together.
